Adult Learners
This is a unique opportunity for adults to completely immerse themselves in the creative process without the many distractions of urban life. Adult learners will have the opportunity to pick and choose from the daily schedule of guided techniques (see Program Details page for a list of these techniques). Our program allows everyone the opportunity to explore a variety of projects, each designed to be completed in a fairly short amount of time. This is particularly fun because you get to work with different instructors and different ideas.
However, if you are a returning student or someone who has already had many of these experiences, you may want to focus on a more comprehensive or challenging project of your choosing.
Some examples of such projects are:
- Woven birch bark pack basket.
- Large wooden bowl.
- Post and rung stool with woven birch bark seat.
- Post and rung chair with woven birch bark seat and steam bent back.
- An ecosystem related project under the tutelage of Jan, Carolyn, Bob or others.
- A small utility sled - possibly involving natural knees, mortise and tennon, and lashing and steam bending.
If you are interested in a “Special Focus” project, we will need to design that project with you by June 18 to assure that tools, supplies and expertise will be available and that the scope of the project will fit into a 5-day week. Please contact John Manthei, Program Director, at 907-455-4547 with ideas or questions.
