Prerequisites
A Week in the Woods is a rugged outdoor program. Participants
will need to be resourceful, have a desire to work with their hands, not
be afraid to get dirty, and be familiar with basic camping conditions in
Interior Alaska. Everyone will be expected to set up their own living quarters,
supply their own water and feed themselves for five days and four nights.
One pit toilet and one fire pit will be built cooperatively for use during
the program. Participants should be prepared to keep themselves warm and
dry in rainy conditions, as well as stay comfortable with mosquitoes and
flies.
Electronics of any kind will not be allowed except for emergencies.
A Week in the Woods is a program designed to incorporate various abilities. We value the interaction between children and adults in the artistic process. However, A Week in the Woods is not a dedicated children’s camp and children must be accompanied by adults who are not only responsible for them, but who plan to learn along with them.
Proof of Insurance
Students are required to show proof of health insurance by presenting the name of the insurance provider and their insurance policy number.
If you do not currently have health insurance, week-long, travel insurance policies can be purchased from any travel insurance company that will cover camping trips. Links to some travel insurance providers:
